Deep Cleaning Marble Countertops, Vanities & Tabletops

The following is the official Deep Cleaning procedure as recommended by Marblelife, the world’s leading professionals who repair, restore and maintain natural stone.  Before beginning care for your natural stone, tile or grout surface, please visit the Common Mistakes with Marble and the Protecting Your Marble, Travertine & Terrazzo sections to help you avoid the all too common mistakes that result you calling for repair help.

The reason for deep cleaning marble is to remove the oils, grease, dirt and residues that have become trapped in the pores of the marble and may have even built up layers on the surface causing the marble to look dull.  Deep cleaning helps to loosen and lift out the trapped debris from the marble, bringing it back to a clear shinning appearance.  Deep cleaning is also recommended prior to sealing marble, travertine, and terrazzo.

 Needed Supplies:

Step 1 – Wipe with wet Dishcloth

This step is simply, removing the loose and sticky substances from the surface.  Using a dishcloth, clean rag or paper towel wet with water, wipe the entire surface so the only thing left to clean are the oils, grease and residues left from previous insufficient cleaning.

Step 2 – Spray, Agitate & Soak

This step loosens the oils, grease and residues.  Spray Marblelife Marble & Travertine Cleaner liberally over the area being cleaned.  Agitate the cleaner with a clean cloth or paper towel and allow to soak for about 5 minutes.  This allows the cleaner to penetrate into the marble and absorb the oils, grease and residues into itself.

Step 3 – Wipe and Repeat

This step removes the loosened residues and reaches even more.  Wipe the used cleaner off with a clean cloth or paper towel so that the first layer of loosened material is removed, allowing access to any remaining layers of oil, grease and residue.  By repeating steps 2 and 3 you reach materials that have built up over time and have formed a solid layer.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed to remove all build up layers of oil, grease and residue.

Step 4 – Spray & Buff Dry

This step finishes with a clear streak-free shine.  After performing the above Deep cleaning process, finish with one light spray of Marblelife Marble & Travertine Cleaner, flip over your cloth and buff dry.  This assures that in addition to a clean surface, you have a streak-free shining surface.  Any clean soft cloth or paper towel will work, however, a microfiber towel is recommended do to it’s extremely small fibers that reach into the marble’s pores.
