Showers may be the most difficult area to maintain in a home. In addition to being a moist environment, we introduce additional variables such as water quality (rust, hard water), scented soaps, shampoos, moisturizers and conditioners, plus mold, soap spatter, soap scum and we quickly realize its not just about a little dirt. Good shower maintenance means maintaining seals on grout and stone to keep all contaminants on the surface where they are easier to clean and remove (in contrast to when they are allowed to seep into grout pores). Then selecting appropriate surface specific cleaners designed for effectiveness without doing damage – or depositing waxes, oils or acids. Generally, good care begins with maintaining a good seal on stone and grout surfaces so that we keep everything on top of the tile were it is easy to clean-and-disinfect.
