Myths About Bleach – What Should You Use To Clean Your Stone?

DISINFECTION MYTH 1:  DISINFECTANTS ARE ALL SAFE AND EFFECTIVE ON THEIR OWN. INCORRECT.

A WEAK DISINFECTANT MAY CREATE MORE HARM THAN GOOD.  IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISINFECT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE MOST EFFECTIVE DISINFECTANT, OR YOU MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO A MAJOR SOCIAL PROBLEM… THE CREATION OF SUPER-BUGS.

Portrait of smiling housewife cleaning desk in bathroomBleach, though a popular choice as a disinfectant, does not actually clean, and is only a moderate disinfectant.  The version of bleach commonly sold for cleaning is a much more diluted form of Sodium Hypochlorite and as such, is not the best disinfectant.  Weak or insufficient contact with disinfectants result in bacteria and viruses that develop immunity to the disinfectant.  Failure to fully eradicate a bacterium when treating for it, whether with an antibiotic or a cleaner, allows the organism to potentially develop a defense or immunity, just as humans do after getting sick.  Ineffective disinfection is credited with being a major contributor in the rise of super bugs and secondary-infection-related deaths in hospitals across the country.  Few people consider this same situation exists in homes across the country -even though we are not concentrating various ill-stricken individuals within closed quarters, increasing the odds of encountering a nasty bug).  If one is looking for an effective disinfectant, consider what MARBLELIFE recommends to its service providers when cleaning and restoring bathrooms: Vital Oxide (available at marblelifeproducts.com in Gallon quantities).

DISINFECTION MYTH 2:  DISINFECTION CHEMICALS ARE CLEANERSINCORRECT.

DISINFECTANTS AND CLEANERS SERVE DIFFERENT BUT COMPLIMENTARY PURPOSES.

This second myth differentiates between clean and disinfected.  Even if one has fully killed the bacteria or virus on a surface, that does not mean that we have removed the remnants that remains.  Better to clean the surface and remove all foreign material whether an oil, or a dead bacteria.  As such, an effective surfactant-based cleaner designed to lift, surround and emulsify the dirt, oil and debris so it is easier to remove whether dead or alive is needed and will result in a cleaner surface.

Cleaners and disinfectants are optimized for their individual purposes.  As such, one is best served by disinfecting, followed by cleaning.  In doing so, we have now produced a clean and disinfected surface.

MARBLELIFE’s line of cleaners are designed to do just that.  In fact, these cleaners are so effective that when adding a few droplets of oil into a glass of the cleaner concentrate, the droplets are quickly emulsified within the cleaner before your eyes. Similar to being used on a countertop or any surface, once the cleaner is applied, you will quickly notice any oils or foreign contaminants be visibly flush from the treated surface. This significant feature is seeing MARBLELIFE cleaners enter garages, workshops, and anywhere else that oil is present and leaving these places spotless and oil-free.  Try cleaning any oily metal and you will quickly have a clean surface to work with. MARBLELIFE’s cleaners will stop that oil from getting all over everything.

Want to put this cleaner to the test? Want to see what it can do on your barbecue grill?  Use a MARBLELIFE cleaner on one of the greasiest surfaces around your home and you will be instantly impressed.  Soap Scum Remover is another barbecue friend as it can power through caked-on grime without scratching the surface, -excellent for use on shower doors, glass oven tops, and other surfaces with caked or baked-on grime.  You can literally feel when the product has completed the removal of targeted grime.

DISINFECTION MYTH 3:  IT DOESN’T MATTER IF A SURFACE IS SEALED.  INCORRECT.

A PROPERLY SEALED SURFACE ENABLES YOUR DISINFECTANT AND CLEANER TO DELIVER SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER RESULTS.

For best results, one wants to be working on a sealed surface, to prevent dirty and bugs from getting into difficult to clean pores and porous grout surfaces.  This can be done by ensuring your surfaces (counters, grouts, tile) have been properly sealed.  Sealing once is not enough, as UV and acidic spills will eventually remove most seals.  As such, counters should be resealed every other year.  Floor grout should be sealed with a seal color-dyed to match the grout, if sanded, and using a penetrating-clear seal if non-sanded.  Seals are generally marketed to resist the potential for staining the surface, but their presence serves another important health aspect. By sealing, you are also eliminating any possible hiding places for bugs that try to hide from the disinfectant and multiply.  Similar to a tight pore filled with bacteria.  The disinfectant can generally get to the top of but not beneath the first layer of dirt and bacteria.  The deeper bacteria can simply regenerate.  Once the grout is sealed, dirt and bacteria remain on the surface where the disinfectant can kill them, then the cleaner can remove them, dead or alive.

DISINFECTION MYTH 4:  YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT USING CLEAN WATER.  INCORRECT.

WATER WILL EVENTUALLY BE SATURATED WITH DIRT, AT WHICH POINT THE ACT OF CLEANING BECOMES AN ACT OF FURTHER CONTAMINATION

MARBLELIFE’s surfactant-based cleaners have been engineered to assist your cleaning efforts by allowing dirt and debris to settle out of the water -keeping your water as clean as possible as you mop a floor.  This element is so effective, that one could literally pour off the water and leave much of the dirt in the bucket when done if desired.  As such, these cleaners reduce the frequency in which water must be changed out, thus ensuring that the water used is as clean as possible, even towards the end of each pass-across of the floor being mopped.  This feature was engineered to assist hotel cleaning staffs and office janitorial staffs where they have large floors and struggle to keep or maintain clean mop water efficiently.  This feature keeps the mop water cleaner longer by separating dirt and dropping it to the bucket bottom.

These cleaners, while designed for their target surfaces (whether marble, tile or granite) are exceptional general cleaners as well.  They are completely safe for use on glass, metal, wood and concrete.  Their engineered cleaning approach works effectively regardless of the surface. As such, you can safely utilize them to make your life easier- whether cleaning the bathroom, kitchen or any other room in your home.
